My Experience with the Stand Out on Set Course

When I opened my inbox one morning in February and noticed an email from the Equal Access Network offering me the chance to attend the Stand-Out on Set course, my heart skipped a beat. I had just decided to finally dive headfirst into the film and TV industry, but I had no idea where to begin. So when this opportunity presented itself, I jumped at the chance to get some hands-on experience and learn everything I could about the industry.

The course was led by Azariah Jade, the EAN’s Industry Outreach Executive. From the first day of the course, I was struck by Azariah’s passion for the craft and her dedication to helping others succeed. I was also very impressed by the course’s structure and the level of detail that went into each session.

Throughout the week, we dove deep into the different components that make a set work, from set etiquette to production departments. We heard from industry professionals who shared their invaluable knowledge and experiences, providing a real-world perspective on what it takes to succeed in this industry.

But this course was more than just theory – we got our hands dirty with practical exercises that were both informative and fun. We learned how to read a call sheet, use a radio, and so many other skills that are essential to excel in the industry

One of the highlights was recreating a scene from the Joker which allowed us to put into practice what we had learned and receive valuable feedback from the speakers.

In addition to the practical exercises, we had the opportunity to network not only with each other but also with industry professionals. The networking opportunities were incredibly valuable, and we were able to meet people who worked in various departments of the industry, from camera assistants to producers. We also received advice on how to approach job applications and improve our CVs.

The Stand-Out on Set course exceeded my expectations, and I left feeling more confident in my abilities and with a better understanding of how the industry works. The skills and knowledge I gained have been invaluable, and I feel ready to take on whatever the industry throws at me.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is looking to break into the film and TV industry or who wants to improve their skills and knowledge in this field. Thank you Azariah and the Equal Access Network for providing such a fantastic opportunity!
